The DRC is enormously diverse, with more than 200 ethnic groups. French is the official language, with Lingala, Swahili, Kikongo, and Tshiluba widely spoken across the vast country.
Christianity, both Catholic and Protestant, is the dominant faith, alongside syncretic churches and traditional beliefs.
The DRC has one of the world's largest and fastest-growing populations but very low development indicators, with millions displaced by persistent conflict in its mineral-rich east.
